Brightness, Colour, and
contrast in photography.
When it comes to photography; brightness, colour, and contrast are what make an image unique. For this experiment, I have done research on how photographers describe light, included my own opinion on what light is, as well as my fellow photographer friends. I have meshed together the information I gathered and made it in to a assignment.
Contrast
Light plays a vital role when it comes to contrast. Their are two main types of contrast; High contrast, and low contrast. You are likely to capture a photo with high contrast when either: photographing a subject with naturaly high contrast between different light and dark shades, or when using a studio light, creating strong shadows.
High contrast
A photograph is usually cattagorized as a high-contrast photo when there are dark shadows against light shades, or vise versa. Light plays a vital role when creating a high contrast photo; light in shades, natural light, or studio light.

Low contrast
Low contrast photographs are essentially the oppostire of high contrast photos. "Low contrast" generally means there are no strong/ or any shadows in the photograph. I have included an example by Varina Patel. As you can see in the photograph, there is close to no shadows and the light is soft.

Colour in light
When experimenting with light in photography, you will notice different colours of light.
You are able to set the tone of your light manualy on your camera, as well as using "gels", a coloured filter you can attach to your studio lights, and of course, there is always colour in natural light.
Gels
As you can see in the photgraph of the woman, she has a blue and pink tint to her skin. These colours are a result from a blue gel filter as well as a red gel filter. Filters come in many differnt colours but blue deffinetely has one of the strongest affects in photography.
