For this experiment, we were asked to present one photo that follows the key-triangle guide, using one main light. In this experiment, I used a medium-sized light. I placed it at a diagonal angle from the model, around one and a half meters from where she stood, on her left side. I asked the model to stand with her body facing the right side of the room and tilt her head towards me. I chose to compose the photograph this way because it doesn’t only give an example of the key-triangle guide, but it also made the model less shy, giving her a more natural look.
The process of getting the perfect shot didn’t seem all that difficult. Finding the right spot to place the main light is easy, the trickiest part was re-placing the light when the model changed her pose. I had the adjust the angle of the light to the model.
Playing around with the camera's settings is something that takes a bit of practice for lighting assignments. I ended up using a shutter speed of 1/80, an ISO of 800, an F-stop of 5.6, as well as the tungsten white balance.
I believe the key-triangle guide is evident in my photograph but I do think it could have turned out stronger. The shadows on the right side of her face are overpowering and create a dim light on her cheek. If the shadows created sharper edges they might have made a better example.
